About Happy Science

In 1986, Ryuho Okawa founded Happy Science in Japan, a spiritual movement dedicated to bringing greater happiness to humankind with teachings of universal Truth, such as the Principles of Happiness: the Fourfold Path of Love, Wisdom, Self-reflection and Progress. Those who are studying these teachings and are active in sharing happiness with others are working together to create an ideal world.

Throughout the three decades since its foundation, Happy Science has rapidly grown into a global movement with members in over 168 countries around the world, with centers in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo, London, Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong and Sao Paulo.

For those who attend Happy Science centers, there are many diverse activities to study and practice the teachings provided by Ryuho Okawa such as seminars to improve one’s life, events to watch the latest video lectures, meditation sessions, and community activities such as support groups for the youth, for seniors, and charities for those in need. Opportunities are offered for further personal growth, to take up responsibilities to guide others and help society, and to challenge oneself to fulfill one’s higher purpose and dreams in life.

Our aim is to make as many people as possible who can say, “I’m happy!”

The Happy Science Group

Creating an Ideal World by Sharing Happiness in Many Areas of Life

With the growth of Happy Science in Japan and around the world, the Happy Science Group was formed that contains many diverse divisions all with the core aim to bring more happiness to people and to society. At its foundation, there is Happy Science that represents the spiritual and religious aspect of this happiness movement.
There is also a publication division, a media division, an educational division, a political division, a talent division, cultural and arts division, and various other community support divisions. All of these various divisions are supported by members dedicated to creating an ideal society and world.

Community service and charity works

Happy Science

This is the base of the Happy Science Group and represents the spiritual and religious aspect of this happiness movement, the teachings and activities in the spreading of universal Truth to bring happiness to others.

HS Academy and The HSU

The educational division includes the Happy Science Academy, a junior and senior school, established in 2010. In 2015, the Happy Science University was established, which is an advanced religious educational establishment for higher education.

The Happiness Realisation Party

With the aspiration to realize happiness throughout society, create an ideal nation and inspire hope for the future, Ryuho Okawa established a political party in Japan called the Happiness Happiness Realization Party (HRP) in 2009.

Community Services

Educational programs for the youth, services for senior citizens and the disabled, and charity activities are provided for local communities. Also, there are anti-bullying and anti-suicide campaigns.

IRH Press

The publishing division, IRH Press, publishes Ryuho Okawa’s diverse and extensive teachings, many of which have been translated into over 41 languages for the global readership.

Media Division

The media division supports Ryuho Okawa’s vast collection of lectures on Truth and are provided for people to watch at Happy Science centers worldwide. This division also supports radio programs, and movie projects.

New Star Productions & ARI Productions

A ‘New Star Production’ division was established to support the nurturing of new talents to share happiness through performance such as acting or singing for the entertainment industry. In 2017, ‘ARI Production’ was also established to produce movies, music, and nurture talents that will play an active role in projects that will be loved by many people not only in Japan but also in the world.

Culture and the Arts

Beauty is also an important aspect to make this world a more positive and wonderful place, so a division to support creativity with literature, art and other forms of cultural expressions has been established.
